Alternative energy: Generate energy from the unwanted heat dissipated. (Green electricity)

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 12:37 AM PDT

University of Minnesota engineering researchers in the College of Science and Engineering have recently discovered a new alloy material that converts heat directly into electricity. This revolutionary energy conversion method is in the early stages of development, but it could have wide-sweeping impact on creating environmentally friendly electricity from waste heat sources. Researchers say the...

Stereo decoder circuit

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 06:13 AM PDT

Stereo decoder circuit. In FM stereo transmission left and right channels are algebraically encoded into sum (left + right) and difference (left-right) signals. This is done in order to make the mono FM receivers compatible with the stereo transmission. The mono receiver will reproduce the summed left and right channel and the listener will hear both these channels through a single loud speaker. Stereo decoder is a circuit which is used in stereo FM receivers in order to recover the left and right channel information from the composite transmission signal. This task is achieved by adding the difference signal to the summed signal to recover left channel and subtracting the difference signal from the summed signal to recover the right channel. The circuit diagram of a stereo decoder using MC1310P IC from Motorola is shown below. MC1310P is an integrated stereo decoder IC chip which is available in 14 pin DIL plastic package. Circuit description. In the circuit composite signal if fed to the input pin (pin2) of the IC through decoupling capacitor C12. Capacitors C6 and C7 do the job of power supply filtering. Capacitor C3 plus Resistors R3 and R4 forms the RC for the ICs internal oscillator...

Transformerless switch mode power supply circuit

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 06:29 AM PDT

12V/120mA switch mode power supply circuit. Transformer less switch mode power supplies have become very popular these days. The circuit shown below is of a 12V/120mA output, 85 to 230V AC input transformerless switch mode power supply using LNK304 IC. Applications of a power supply based on this IC includes hand held devices, timers, small appliances, LED drivers, industrial gadgets etc. LNK304 is a low component count, efficient off-line switcher IC that can support buck, buck-boost and flyback topologies. The IC has a built in auto start circuit for short circuit and open loop fault protection. Other features of LNK304 includes low temperature variation, thermal shut down, high break down voltage, good line & load regulation, high band width , wide input voltage range (85 to 230V AC) etc. In general the LNK304 has a better performance when compared to the many other discrete buck regulators.   The pin configuration and the typical application diagram of LNK304 are shown above. Drain (D) pin the drain connection of the built in power MOSFET. The external by pass capacitor (0.1uF) is connected to the BYPASS (BP) terminal. FEEDBACK (FB) pin controls the switching of the built in power MOSFET. A current above than...

Systems, Control Systems and Classifications

Systems, Control Systems and Classifications
System: A system comprises of several component work together for a specific task
Control System: If the output is of our desire and able to control, then the system is called as Control systems

General Classification of systems:
1.  Open loop System: In an Open loop System, the control action is independent of the desired output.

OR
When  the output quantity of  the control system  is not  fed back  to  the  input quantity,  the control system is called an Open loop System. e.g. Blind man's action, traffic control without traffic police

2.  Closed loop System: In the Closed  loop Control System the control action is dependent on the desired output, where the output quantity is considerably controlled by sending a command signal to input quantity. The closed loop systems are normally have feed back.
e.g Normal man's action, Automobile systems, traffic signal control with traffic police etc.

Based on the type of system, control systems can be classified as
1.Electrical System,
2. Mechanical System (Translational, Rotational)
3. Hydraulic system
4. Pneumatic systems
5. Thermal systems and so on.

“PossessedHand” Will Move Your Hand For You

Posted: 27 Jun 2011 09:56 AM PDT

Don't worry if you d not know how to play the guitar. From now on, the "PossessedHand" will play it for you. PossessedHand is a kind of a blood pressure cuff that is strapped onto your arm. This device will pass small electrical signals to your fingers in such a manner that it moves your hand accordingly at different angles. This device was developed by researchers at Tokyo University along with the technical cooperation of Sony Co. PossessedHand The device is mainly controlled by an Arduino Microcontroller along with other small tools like DIYers and so on. The electric signal is passed from the device to the hand using twenty eight different electrode pads. Unlike other conventional methods, this method does not require the electrodes to be inserted into the skin. They can be fixed externally onto the skin and the electric signals will be passed with the same effect as like any other conventional methods. Thus, the method is not at all dangerous, and not at all painful. The developers like to claim that the device will act very smoothly like a hand massager. Besides, the signals are weak enough that you don't even feel the sting of current...

Energy saving gadget: Switch plug

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 02:19 AM PDT

Switch plug is a new and simple idea of some extraordinary brain. This tool looks simple and amazing effective. i found this article just while surfing my favorite sites. Found this to have a quality and trend to make a share to our engineers. This seems simple but actually this can be really a valid and welcome topic for people searching for some different seminar and...
